請不要被我的外表騙了,我只是一個失去記憶的靈魂;
請不要掩面不看我,我渴慕你叫醒我;
To The Living Spring Association for Education and Culture, Taiwan:
Hallelujah, May the peace of our Lord Jesus be with you.
At first, I would like to offer my thankfulness to our Lord and my congratulations to you all. It proved today that your prayers, hard works, and proactive efforts for the outreaching of the gospel in prisons has been accepted and blessed by God.
Brother Sf Liu was awarded as the “Honorary Counsellor” and invited to be the “Choir Instructor” by Yaiyuan Correction Institute today. It is a double honor considering the short time period that he started to participate in this task. As an honorary counsellor, he will be allowed to offer his advice to all the prisoners; while as a choir instructor, he will be responsible for teaching and training of music lessons under the Education Assistance Section of the Institute.
Music has been the most effective means in preaching the gospel. It is the best medicine to heal the wounded souls. The beautiful melodies and the meaningful lyrics always touch the hearts and lead the people to the loving arms of the Lord.
“And if you obey the voice of the LORD your God, being careful to do all his commandments which I commanded you this day, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth….And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you….And the LORD will make you the head, and not the tail; and you shall tend upward only, and not downward…” (Dt. 28:1-14)
May the glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men with whom he is pleased…Amen!
The tears swelling in my eyes when the Director of Taiyuan Correction Institute handed me the Certificate and read the words of description in a ceremonial formal tone.
It reminded me the greatest regret in my life. My father and my elder brother were former prisoners. When they were alive, I hated them and kept my distance from them. I came to understand them as someone who was wounded in their life and needed my care help them healing their wounds only after they had passed away. I myself became a wounded soul because I did not reach out in time to embrace them; their departure left me a void that I never had a chance to fill. Therefore, I thank God for giving me this lesson to heal myself. The precious lesson is that when you help the others heal themselves, you actually heal yourself.
I will never forget the voice ringing in my ears when I stepped into the prison the first day:
Not to be fooled with my appearance; I am just a soul that lost his memories.
Not shun your face from me; I long for you to awaken me.
We are all from the same origin; remind me who I was at the beginning.
My involvement with the gospel outreaching in prisons may offend some religious organizations, but I will never forget what Jesus taught us in His words, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.” Can I disobey Jesus’ teachings and turn my face away from those who are spiritually sick in front of me? I rather believe in His words and follow Him than submit myself to the institutional and organizational decisions. Shouldn’t I?
I really thank our Lord Jesus! During these two months of working in the prisons, I truly witnessed that by sing hymns and sharing the truth, the lost and wounded souls have come to find who they should be and can be gradually.
Every face shone in the beautiful melodies, every pair of eyes filled with tears for the touching lyrics. Every time when I was going to go after the class, the prisoners always grasped my hands tightly with speechless gratitude, the sparks of hope in their staring. I truly saw the awakening of the confused and wounded souls. This reward and sense of fulfilment has been way beyond the applauses received on the stage.
Lord! Please continue to guide my steps as you have led me through the stormy sea in past years. Please be with these wounded souls and comfort them. May your kingdom come; may your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Amen!
